Tacten © 2015 | A Rockwood Company
Being the first, and longest standing, full member of IRATA in North America, as well as the largest rope access service provider in North America affords us a significant amount of experiential knowledge that has vast benefits to our clients. One of our core areas of expertise is in rope access. We have spent years developing a group of industrial services and access optimization techniques that provide operators with options beyond the traditional methods of completing work at height. We realize that rope access is not a replacement for all forms of traditional access methods such as scaffolding and swing stages however being in a position to assess every project at height to determine the most suitable method of access could not fail to yield positive results whether they be cost or time savings. We find the most significant cost savings to our customers can be delivered using rope access solutions. It is not uncommon for us to develop customized access optimization programs for customers resulting in a 50% – 70% cost reduction over other traditional access methods. Our rope access teams will often accomplish tasks in hours which may take several days using conventional methods. What is rope access? A cost effective alternative to scaffolding, cranes and man baskets for work at height, and confined space which originated from mountaineering and caving. Who can do rope access work? IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) is the industry standard for rope access certifications.  Certified technicians are trained specifically to do this type of work. Certifications come in 3 categories – Level I, Level II and Level III.  More information on IRATA certifications and their standards can be found on their website http://www.irata.org/. As mentioned elsewhere, we are the first, and longest standing, full member of IRATA in North America. What kind of benefits are realized by using rope access methods? Reduced setup impact Ease of organization and coordinating Versatility Time and cost saving Reduced risk How safe is rope access work? Rope access work is extremely safe and has rigorous audited compliance standards. Our commitment to safety is evidenced through our various certifications, strict adherence to industry standards, and membership in safety and quality programs including: First and longest standing full member of IRATA in North America ISO 9001:2008 approved system currently registered at our Dartmouth and Fort Saskatchewan locations Regulated by IRATA for Operations and Training Audited by IRATA Alberta OH&S code Part 41 (Work Requiring Rope Access) WorkSafe BC Part 34 and NS Workplace Health and Safety Regulations Part 22 Provincial Construction Safety Association Certified (AB, NS, NL) Rescue plan before job plan
Our safety program is third party audited and has proven to meet or exceed industry requirements. The IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS) has been developed by IRATA to provide training and assessment criteria for personnel who will be engaged in rope access work and methods. It is recognized that the safety, application and effectiveness of industrial rope access methods depend upon both the capabilities of the personnel who perform them and those responsible for these people. The independent assessments are designed to test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of the operations performed, and to provide the sector with an assured minimum standard of proficiency. IRATA, as the governing body of rope access, ensures compliance through: Audits of company procedures for rope access work Audits of equipment related processes for maintenance, inspection and logging of equipment Independent assessment and certification of Technicians Ensuring the highest level of quality in safety supervision through rigorous Level 3 training and assessment criteria To ask questions, discuss project opportunities, or inquire about access solutions for your worksite or your facility please contact us at ropes@tacten.ca.
